Fair Information

The MISEF is open to Indigenous students from grades 4 through 12 in Manitoba.

The fair will be divided into five levels:

1. Elementary …… (Grade 4)

2. Middle …………. (Grade 5/6)

3. Junior ……………. (Grade 7/8)

4. Intermediate … (Grade 9/10)

5. Senior……………. (Grade 11/12)

Projects at the Grade 4 to 6 Levels can be completed by individuals or by groups of up to 4 students.

Projects at the Grade 7 to 12 Levels can only be completed by either an individual or a pair of students.

For the Purpose of Judging, Projects will be sorted into two categories – Life Sciences and Physical Sciences – at each level.

Awards

Medal Awards: Every project exhibited will be eligible for a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal

Special Awards: There will be various ‘special awards’ offered for excellence in specific parameters as per award sponsors

Major Awards: CWSF – Up to 7 students from grade 7-12 will be selected to have their projects exhibited at the Canada Wide Science Fair, in May

Timelines and Deadlines

Registration for the 2021 MISEF will open on March 4th, 2021. Students can register and upload projects at any time after registration opens, and until three days before the judging periods.

 For this year only, due to the special circumstances, and flexibility created by COVID Conditions, we will have 2 Virtual Fairs, as explained below. Grade 7-12 students NOTE the two different deadlines. Only projects entered by round 1 can be considered for the CWSF (national exhibition)

Virtual Fair Round 1:

  • Judging Period – April 12-14, 2021
  • Registration cut-off – April 9, 2021
  • Participants – Open to Grade 7 to 12 projects

*Projects exhibited during this period will be eligible for Medal Awards as well as Promotion to participation in the Canada Wide Science Fair 2021.

 Virtual Fair Round 2:

  • Judging Period – June 9-11, 2021
  • Registration cut-off – June 7, 2021
  • Participants – Open to all Grade 4 to 12 projects (Any grade 7 – 12 students who do not meet the deadline for round 1 can still enter projects for Round 2)

* Projects exhibited during this period will be eligible for Medals as well as other Special Awards

Registration Cost and Information

The Registration Fee for participation in the MISEF 2021 is $15.00 per student
